Filter failed

I have an Epson XP-412 printer and every so often it will not print. It says Filter failed. I turn everything off and sometimes that works quite well and sometimes it does not. Eventually I fiddle around a bit with the system preferences and adding a new printer and then it might come back on. It is very frustrating. Thank you for any help.

That isn't an error message I have heard of. Can you upload a screenshot of it when it occurs again?

At first glance, it sounds like a hardware issue - I wonder if there is an ink filter in the Epson? Strange that deleting/re-adding the printer fixes it temporarily.

I wonder if Epson Support would be helpful?
