Email problem

After I reply to a group email the original email disappears from my inbox.
I can find it in a thread with my reply, but I can’t open any attachments sent in the original e-mail or see the recipients.
It's happening on all my devices - mac, macbookpro, iphone. I can't see anything in email preferences.
has this happened to anyone else? any suggestions?

-What version of OS X and iOS?
-Are you using the Apple Mail app on all your devices?
-Who is your email provider - i.e. google.com, hotmail.com, etc.?
-How is your email account setup - POP or IMAP?
-Does you email provider have a webmail interface in a browser that you can login to?
