email keeps repeating

The exact same email, including time, is listed repeatedly up to 16 times! i am using 10.6.8. what can I do to eliminate this problem. This occurs with all emails. It began yesterday.

Are these incoming or outgoing?
Both?
If outgoing, does each email have the exact same message or only part?
What email client are you using?

Incoming only. I guess my email client is whatever I downloaded when I installed OS 10.6.8.
I have Clam Xav 2.10 installed & updated it & ran the entire contents of my hard drive after the problem started- no viruses found.

Hello,

-Do you have any rules setup in Mail > Preferences... > Rules?
-Do you have more than one email address setup?
-Could you have changed some settings in the web interface for the email account?
