El Capitan causing problems with email

Since upgrading to the latest programme I am unable to send emails from my mac. Also it is currently stuck on the spinning coloured circle, and am unable to go to required files. Everything has been slow or not working since upgrade. HELP am a complete novice when it comes to sorting things out.

Additionally, we need to know the following:

1. What exact Mac OS are you running?

2. What is the Mac model you have?

3. Are you doing any backups to an external device?

4. Have you done any disk cleanup, maintenance, and repairs?

5. Do you have either MacKeeper or CleanMyMac on your machine? If you do, get rid of them IMMEDIATELY, as they do more harm than good.

6. Do you have any anti-virus software on your machine?
