dying hd, time to update os

Have an iMac 2.4 GHz, duo core, Intel, Boot ROM IM71.007A.B03. The hard drive is failing and I'm about to replace it. Current OS is 10.5.8 - my question is, what's the newset OS which I could load on the new drive during setup?

Snow Leopard then you can upgrade via the Store to Lion, or Mountain Lion. you can check on the Apple site to see if your MacMini can go to Mountain Lion.
