Display my Photo Albums on the Desktop

I have a MacBook Pro(early 2013) running Catalina 10.15.7. Before Catalina, I could easily go to Mac System Preferences, select Desktop and scroll through my Photo's and display any album that I choose. Now when I select "Desktop" I have a very limited selection of Photo's and I don't know how I have what is displayed, and I cannot select other Photo's.

How do I rectify this?

Hi,

It does seem that Catalina takes a while to "load" photos from the Photo Library. I wonder if it could have to do with the number of photos you have?

I don't think that is the issue. I managed to get the album I wanted to be put on the desktop, but I had to make it a folder vice an album. At least that is what I think happened. I'm not positive and I don't want to mess with it any more as I have the desktop I want for now.
