Hi

Have a 4 yr old mac desktop.

Tried to update to the latest OS, and now it won’t boot or start (anymore)

Just hangs up.
Tried everything I can think of to get it to normally boot, but always hangs.

Would be most grateful for any suggestions.

BTW: what’s the “normal” lifetime for these desktops ? Always has been left on.

Thanks,
Bob

So, what exactly happens? I assume the screen comes on? Then you try to login but it does not progress to the desktop?

What Mac desktop is it? At 4 years I assume it is one of the M series (a Silicon Mac) you received a notification or flag in Settings that indicated an update was available, you clicked download and Update Now or Tonight?
Once you begin to install the update you must not shut down or turn off the device, is there any chance that this happened?

After successful update your Mac should open to the login page and launch as before.

The first thing I would suggest is powering the device Off, unplug it from AC power. Leave it for about 5 min and turn back on. If this works then I would assume the Upgrade process did not complete for some reason.
