Dead(?) iMac

Hello all, My old computer, an iMac running Snow Leopard, has been chugging along nicely, but now appears to be dead.

Yes, it is plugged in ;-)

I hit the power button on the back (lower left corner) and nothing happens: no Apple chime, no hint of light, just a silent black screen.

Is there any hope of resurrection?

TIA for all help!
Ch.S.

Hello and welcome.

Try the following:
-Unplug every cable from the iMac, including the power cable
-Wait 15 seconds
-Plug in the power cable, wait 5 secs, then try and power it on

Let us know if that works.

I had tried that, several times, without success.
Just to be sure, before replying here I tried again.
Mirabile dictu, it gave me the reassuring Apple chime! and I got as far in the startup process as entering my password.
That netted me the spinning beach ball for about 30 seconds, but after that the thing is now up and running.
Miracles never cease!
Many thanks for the nudge.

Excellent...glad it's up and running.
