When duplicating and saving files error message says file cannot be due to it being damaged?

-Which version of OS X/macOS?
-Is this on the internal drive, or in combination with an external drive?
-If external is used, which brand/model?
Normally, this is a sign that a drive may be failing and parts of the file/drive cannot be read/written. Have you had any freezing or other issues recently?
