CS2 applications quit upon opening

Hi, I need some help on this issue because I've been racking my brain trying to figure it out and nothing. I need my CS2 because I'm a freelance graphic guy and depend on it.

My issue is that all CS2 applications in the adobe suite are quitting upon opening. I get the pop up that says " Photoshop / illustrator quit unexpectedly "

I recently ran a "repair disk permission" because my mac was running sluggish and someone had mentioned to run that and it would speed it up. So I don't know if that had anything to do with the quitting unexpectedly pop up I'm getting.

I have the black 2006 intel based macbook running snowleopard. CS2 has been working fine on my macbook for years. I also did a full reinstall. I got rid of all CS2 files and install it fresh and still get the pop up quitting. Any help on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks.

Trash its preference file
Library > Preferences > sorry I don't know its name so you will have to look through the list.

The preference file? I looked for it and these are the ones that I see in that file :

com.adobe.AdobePDFSettings.plist

com.adobe.PDFAdminSettings.plist

com.adobe.versioncueCS2.plist

com.adobe.acrobat.pdfviewer.plist

Are any of these the ones your talking about ? These are the only ones listed in the preferences file.

Thanks

So do I send them to the trash then empty the trash? What if I empty the trash and those files were not the issue, then what? Once I empty the trash can they are gone for good.

The Apps make the preference files when they start. It just means your App is reset to the default settings.

Ok I went ahead and did that. I sent one by one all four of those files to the trash and emptied it out. I tried opening photoshop after that and still does the same thing. I keep getting the pop up message.

Yes I do have adobe bridge, but I don't see anything with bridge in the preferences.

And yes it's all the CS2 apps that are getting pop up message ad quitting unexpectedly.

If you are running 10.5

You may want to download and install the 10.5.1 standalone update. I saw another post where someone else did this and it fixed the issue. I also just downloaded the standalone update and installed it, then restarted and everything worked fine.

Do you think that when I ran the "repair disk permission" had any effect on photoshop / illustrator ? It was running ok before that.

No.

It was more likely yo be the last update or something.

The problem is that you are running old PPC software on an intel computer, while Apple did a wonderful job keeping things as compatible as possible as time goes by things are going to break.

Yeah I heard that you can not run CS2 on an intel based macbook. That CS2 was configured for the old none intel ( G5, iBook, iMac ) But Like I said I have installed it in my intel macbook since like 2006 or 2007 , like 6 or 7 years now and CS2 has worked fine up until now. I have no idea what the problem is all of a sudden. I even uninstalled and reinstalled a few times. I found the uninstall instructions on the CS2 and followed what it said and removed all files and traces of the old install and I still get the pop up quit unexpectedly. I have no idea what to do next.

This is a legal copy I have that I bought it at the school I went to at the time in 2006. I bought it for like 400 or 500 dollars at the school office. So it's not like it's a bootleg copy off the streets. Adobe is suppose to honor it and help with technical issues not say sorry it's an old version and can't help you. It's their product no matter what version it is. They say that because they want you to spend the 700 dollars for the new version. Sorry but I can't afford that right now. I'm ok with this version. Adobe headquarters is like 10 miles from where I live, I should go knock on their door and give them a piece of my mind...hahaha

It could be the Scanner Software, do you have a scanner and is it scanning OK?

Good luck with that! I agree, in fact I'm so feedup with Adobe my Macs are Adobe free, and I was a Photoshop artist.

I use Pixelmator and iDraw and haven't looked back.

No I do not have a scanner hooked up to the macbook at all. And no software from printer or scanner.

Wow you never looked back huh.. Hmmmm I'm about to do the same. Of course I like to have all the new bells and whistles with CS6 but can't afford the outrageous 700 or 800 price of it.. I can almost buy a new macbook with that. I applied to work there 5 or 6 years ago but they turned me down, oh well. Hahaha

I'm about ready to look through craigslist to see if anyone might be selling any used software. I know somewhere someone out there is selling it cheaper then the company is.

Yeah they should provide you with support but when you call they only tell you that your software is outdated and you need to upgrade,, duhhh tell me something I don't know. If they would lower their prices maybe I would upgrade. They 're no help at all,, they are useless. I even looked at the adobe site forum for support and seen other people with the same issue as me the "quit unexpected" pop up and all the advice they give them is to upgrade their software, useless info. They are only trying to make a sell, that's all.

Yeah I'm a photoshop artist too, and I need it,, hmmm how's the Pixelmator working out? Is it comparable to the Adobe stuff?

Yes, that was how I felt.

Ok, there are a lot of "advance" photoshop features that aren't in Pixelmator, but I didn't use them much. There are no Macros nor the Texture generator fills. But with a price of $15.00 whats not to like. I made the switch while I still had CS3, so I could go back if needed but found over time I just never opened it.

At that price you can look around at the App store and buy 2 or 3 different Apps and use the App that works best at a particular task.

Yes, it opens and save PhotoShop files.

I can't say that occasionally I wish I had CS6 but then I remember the on going hassles, the dial home, all the extra **** that gets installed, and having to deal with Adobe. No fun...
