Am picking up 27" iMac tomorrow; need to transfer my current Time Machine HD to a newer, larger capacity external USB3 HD for use on new Mac. What's the best way to copy it (from old HD to new HD) so that the Time Machine data will be recognized on my new equipment? Any software recommendations?

Am currently trying out ProSort's 'Data Backup', but it's been scanning the old TM backup now for nearly 10 hours, with over 43 million files reviewed so far! It's less than 1 T of data going back less than 1 year. Something doesn't seem right.

Thanks.

PS: Am trading in Mac Pro Early 2008, w/3.2 processor, 2 500G internals, 30" Cinema Display monitor, etc. Holler to (e-mail address removed) tomorrow latest if interested.

Sorry not sure ATM, but I am sure you don't want any "Utilities" messing with your TimeMachine backup.

I would strongly recommend doing all this over Ethernet, not WiFi.

And it will take "some time".
