CD Rom drive

I have an older iMac (2008) with an internal CD drive. Some CD's will lunch but there are others that won't. When I insert some CD's into the drive it stays in for about 30 seconds and then pops back out. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Can't understand why some CD's will work and other will not.
