Hey folks,

I’ve got a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I used to connect my iPhone 13 to CarPlay with no issues using a USB cable. Now, I’ve upgraded to the iPhone 15, and CarPlay just won't work. I’ve tried using a Lightning to USB-C adapter to connect my phone to the car’s USB port, but no luck.

Has anyone else had this problem or know a workaround? It’s pretty frustrating, and I miss having CarPlay.

Hey ivygeller12,

Here are some steps you can try to get CarPlay working again with your iPhone 15 in your 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee:

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Use a Direct USB-C to USB-A Cable:
    • Since the iPhone 15 uses a USB-C port, try using a high-quality USB-C to USB-A cable directly, without an adapter. Sometimes adapters can cause connection issues.
  2. Restart Your Devices:
    • iPhone: Restart your iPhone by holding down the Side button and either volume button, then slide to power off. Turn it back on after a few seconds.
    • Car Infotainment System: Restart your car’s infotainment system by turning off the car, waiting a few minutes, and then turning it back on.
  3. Check CarPlay Settings on Your iPhone:
    • Go to Settings > General > CarPlay.
    • Make sure your car is listed. If it’s not, add it by connecting your iPhone to the car using the USB cable.
    • If your car is listed, tap on it and make sure CarPlay is enabled.
  4. Forget and Reconnect Car:
    • In the CarPlay settings, tap on your car’s name and choose “Forget This Car”.
    • Reconnect your iPhone to the car using the USB cable and set up CarPlay again.
  5. Enable Siri:
    • Ensure that Siri is enabled, as CarPlay requires Siri to function. Go to Settings > Siri & Search and make sure all the Siri options are turned on.
  6. Update Your iPhone:
    • Ensure your iPhone 15 is running the latest version of iOS. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install any available updates.
  7. Update Your Car’s Infotainment System:
    • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your Jeep’s infotainment system. You may need to visit your dealership or check the manufacturer’s website for updates.
  8. Reset All Settings:
    • If the issue persists, you might try resetting all settings on your iPhone. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. This won’t delete your data but will reset system settings like Wi-Fi passwords and wallpapers.

Additional Considerations

  • Test with Another Car: If possible, test your iPhone 15 with CarPlay in another car to see if the issue is specific to your Jeep.
  • Try Another Device: Connect a different iPhone to your Jeep to see if CarPlay works with that device, which can help identify if the issue is with the car or your new iPhone.

Let me know if it works.

I know this post is old but hoping this fix helps others! Get a data/file transfer cord! It’s near the regular charger cords and looks the same but on the package it says data or file transfer cord. It is the ONLY cord that allows car play with my iPhone 15 and 2024 Mazda as well as my son’s phone and car! It also still charges your phone.

Hey, I had the exact same issue with my iPhone 15! The problem is that the Lightning to USB-C adapter doesn’t work well with CarPlay. You’ll need to get a USB-C to USB-A cable instead, and that should fix it. It worked for me, now CarPlay is back!

P.S. Double-check if your car's system is up to date. It might sound trivial, but sometimes that’s the trick! 😉
