Hey all.

For the last 3-4 months I have been dealing with this issue, when Im trying to restart or shut down my Mac, it starts the process, desktop icons and top menu dissapear, but thats it. The finder crashes , and is not responding. I can still use the dock.

Only option is to put it on sleep, but right now I need to update to 10.11.6 ,but because of this restart issue I cant.

Maybe anyone of you had the same problem and know how to tackle this?

Hello and welcome.

-Which exact model Mac?
-Do you have a current Time Machine or other backup of your data?
-It could be a corrupted OS X install or preference file.
-It could be an audio plugin - do you have any AVID software such as Pro Tools installed?
-Do you have a Wacom tablet, or any other peripheral that has software drivers?
-Do you have any third-party utilities like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, etc.?
-Do you have any antivirus software installed?
