Can't read CD-Rom - Missing Application?

So, when trying to free up space on my MacBook recently, I deleted some applications I never use and didn't think I'd need.
But now I'm trying to install a program (Reunion 8 - a genealogy program) from a CD-ROM, and when I open the CD icon, I see a bunch of unidentifiable gray box icons, one of which says 'install reunion' underneath. When I click on this one, I get the message 'The application can't be found'. Is there some application I might be missing that could be responsible for this?

What other reason might there be for this?

looks like you are trying to install the Windows version.

No, it's definitely the Mac version. I wonder if I may have accidentally deleted something that is needed to run the program from the CD.

Is there a specific application that is used to open the CD-ROM and install the program?

sure you might have deleted something important, how could I know?

What are the extensions on those files? cant tell from the screen snap.
They look like exec icons.

You need either a pkg or app

A pkg or app?

I can't tell the extension, when I try to 'get info', the icon just disappears....
