Cant find a printer.

I have a 2011 I MAC running OS X E1 Capitan version 10.11.4
I need to replace my old Kodak C315 printer,but all available printers seem to require Version 12 or later.
The assistant in PC World told me that Mac do this on purpose to make people purchase a new computer every few years???
My computer works perfectly,and I don`t see why I should spend £1K + just to use a printer.
I would be grateful for any help and advice.

I run El Capitan 10.11.6 and haven't had a problem with printers. My Brother laser printer was just plug and play.

Just had a look at the Epsom website and the cheapest printer I could find, the Expression Home XP-2100 will work with
Mac OS X 10.6.8 upwards.

My Canon MG 3600 works well on both my Catalina and El Capitan macs.

Looking on Canons website printers such as the Canon Pixma TR4550 use Airprint LINK
