As usual, did updating of my Mac 21.5" last week to Monterey 12.6.8. Since then error messages whenever I try to open Safari. I have been waiting for another upgrade to correct this, but nothing has been forthcoming. What are other users finding that helps?

Hello and welcome.

What version is Safari - Version 16.6 (17615.3.12.11.3, 17615)?

OK, thanks.

That's the version I have in macOS Monterey 12.6.8.
  • What is the error message you get?
  • Do you have any Safari Extensions installed?
  • Does another browser work?

1st thing that I would try is to delete the Safari Caches and Saved State. Theses are located in a hidden folder in your Home Folder.

To get to these folders, while hoding down the Option key select the Go menu in the Finder and select Library.

Locate the Caches folder and open it. Delete the folder titled com.apple.Safari.

Next, in the Library folder go to the folder titled Saved Application State and open that. Delete the folder titled com.apple.Safari.savedState.

If that doesn’t work, you can try booting into Safe mode and see if you have the same issue?

If none of these resolve your issue, you may want to download and reinstall macOS Monterey.

You can download the installer at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/macos-monterey/id1576738294 and run it.

This will not delete any of your data, just reinstall the OS and fix any files that may be corrupt.

Thanks MacsBug. I tried all those (bar opening in Safemode) but the reinstallation worked. :):)
