Hi Sara,

How long have you been using the Powerbook for? Has it been working fine for you in the past, or did you just get it from someone? Try removing the battery, running the computer off the adapter for a while, and then replacing the battery. This checks whether your adapter is functioning properly and also the act of removing/replacing can help if the battery isn't aligned properly or just has a bad connection.

Some other suggestions:
1. Wait and see for an hour or so, if a battery fully discharges then sometimes it needs a while before it will accept any charge.
2. Reset the PRAM (parameter random access memory).
3. Reset the PMU (power management unit).
4. Borrow a battery from a friend or get a cheap one from eBay or someplace.
5. If all else fails, take it in to an Apple service place and get it looked at.
