Hi fellow Mac users!

I am having an issue with a constant "stenographer" type message constantly on screen. It gives a little notation on everything that I click on. It is in a movable black bar with white type. (please see attached) I can't figure out how to remove it. It is annoying, please help!

Thanks!

Hello and welcome.

That is the Captions feature of VoiceOver. To turn off VoiceOver:

Apple > System Preferences... > Accessibility > VoiceOver (in the Seeing section) > uncheck Enable VoiceOver

Let us know if that corrects the issue.

Hi Cory, YES!! it worked!!

I was thinking it was just like that annoying voice (my apologies to the designer and anyone who truly needs it!!) that used to comment on everything I wrote. Aha and I see it has a toggle: command f5.

Thanks so much Cory!

sometimes it's easy to activate voiceover using an incorrect keyboard shortcut … I do it often but a pet cat or even a child can turn it on by accident. The keyboard shortcut for enabling/disabling voiceover is ⌘F5
