Advice on video edits

How can I import video from my Sony A57 DSLR, into iMovie. Or what other apps are can be used for simple editing, like trimming and croping.
I belive this is my first post to the forum.

I only use Fujifilm devices so can use quicktime for the above,

How can I import video from my Sony A57 DSLR, into iMovie.

and I import directly from my 3 cameras on to my Mac via image capture, then just open iMovie and import as my screen shots show.

If this does not work for your Sony as I think you need a converter then maybe look here.
