I am wondering if there is anyway of getting around the administrative password for my Imac as I wanted to give my computer away as I can no longer upgrade mine now. Problem after erasing all my info for the next person I get a blinking lock and then a locked lock and i need the password to log in but have forgotten it.

That sounds like a firmware password: Set a firmware password on your Mac
Unfortunately, there isn't any way around it from a user perspective, and if you cannot remember it, you will need to contact Apple and schedule an appointment as stated in the linked article above.
