I am trying to install updates on my Mac book Pro (specifically office 2008 12.3.0 updates) and I have an error message saying that I need to quit 'SyncServicesAgent' before I can complete install.

But I can't see where this is open. I've clicked on Force quite and closed everything that is open on my mac.

Any help appreciated.

It could be a background process that does not show up in the Force Quit menu. Go to your Applications folder > Utilities > Activity Monitor. Open Activity Monitor and select the CPU tab to see if SyncServicesAgent is running. If it is, you can highlight it and click the Quit button.
