Help! Even though i haven't downloaded it, i've been infected with MacKeeper. It's invaded every browser: Safari, Google Chrome, Firefox, even my old Netscape. It replaces every page i open automatically and often brings up a page that can't be closed without force-quitting the browser. At times renders everything inoperable. Changes the homepage and privacy settings in Safari to accept all cookies and ads. There's no application to delete, no library settings of .zeo, nor can i find any evidence of it in any search. Tried resetting Safari and dumping all preferences. Can't find anything anywhere on the net to tell how to get rid of it.

Yes, do not EVER, EVER install MacKeeper! It sure is a piece of crap.

Now, here is what I posted on another thread:

OK, here are the two steps you need to take:

1. Completely remove MacKeeper. This link explains how to do that:

http://www.macworld.com/article/2861435/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-from-your-mac.html

2. Download, install, and run the excellent freeware program called AdwareMedic to get rid of annoying ads. You can get that from here:

http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php

Additionally, download, install, and run the excellent freeware virus program called ClamXav. You can get it from here:

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/15850/clamxav

Note that you at least need to be using Snow Leopard (OS 10.6, and preferably the last version of it, OS 10.6.8) for ClamXav to work.
