MacBook Air won't start

My MacBook Air won't start so I pressed the power button for 7 seconds, the sreen became all white and now a file with a question mark is flashing. Retried 5 times, always the same blinking files...
I'm no expert, does anyone knows what to do??

How long have you had it? It sounds like your hard drive isn't connected properly or you don't have an operating system. Have you knocked it at all?
