Apple TV

Months ago I had Apple TV working. Just come back to want to use it and Cannot start it.
What am I missing. Wireless Network is Working as well as Cable

What colour light on the front?

Was Nothing, then I unplugged all and reconnected, Got a Flashing White Light, then a Steady White Light. Then on the TV screen came the message that could not connect to Network , and go to Settings and then network.
The Screen showed Computers and Settings. computers appeared to be the Active Icon as it wad a Blue?? square around it , but I could not get to Settings. The Remote that came with apple TV Receiver did appear to do anything.

Which side of the receiver should be facing out from the wall??

Sorry but appear stuck, I put a new Battery in the remote. It was all working about 7 weeks ago and has not been used since and the power was turned off.
