What is Internet connect?how do I get rid of it?

I have a MacBook Pro that has a Lynksys wireless setup. I also have SnowLeopard. Recently during a storm I had Internet issues that required a maintenance on the home base computer(win XP). During that time I had to use an ethernet cable to my Mac from the modem box, by passing the router. After getting the homebase back and restoring all connections, I have been getting "Internet connect can not open with this connection" After OK the message 3 or 4 times it finally goes away, then it takes a couple of tries and I am able to successfully open Firefox or Safari. I am a software support technician for bookkeeping software, and have tried everything I can think of. I can get the internet but it is very frustrating to get to. The odd thing is the Windows side of the Snow Leopard does not have this issue..
ANY IDEAS???????
