Trying to connect my MacBook Pro to my TV

Hey! Hoping someone might be able to tell me how to connect my MacBook Pro to my TV.

Do I need to fork out for the appletv pack are is there a simply scart or HDMI connecting lead that I can use? Will I have sound problems if I try to use a simple connection?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thankx:)
