If you are currently using 1 and 1 hosting and want to switch, then follow this guide.

You can keep 1 and 1 as the Domain registrar, they are currently very cheap at domain registrations.

All you need to do is cancel the hosting element, but keep the DNS services.

Login to your 1 and 1 account here:

https://admin.1and1.co.uk

and enter your account number and password.

Next click on the "Domains" icon.

This brings you to the "Domains Overview" page.

Select the domain that you want to change, by ticking the box on the left.

Now click on the "DNS" tab.

This now brings up the "DNS Settings" page.

Click on the "Edit" button next to the word "Name Server Settings"

This now brings up a new page where you can select "My Name Server".

You can now change the Primary and Secondary Name servers to the same as below...

Once this has been done you can now click on the Save button.

Once this has been done, it will then take anywhere from 1 hour to 48 hours for the Name Servers around the Internet to get the updates.

Once this has completed your website will now be being served from one of our Web Servers.

Hi Ric, 1 and 1 are very cheap at domain registrations, BUT, when you get your renewal bill 2 years later, it is a staggering £80 for a further 12 months!

I cancelled my 1 and 1 account months and months ago, as I now get free webspace/hosting/domain name registration from another site I work for, but have just received my £80 plus VAT renewal bill for the domain name which was initially something like £10 for two years.

I was shocked to see how much they wanted off me! I am not paying it, since I no longer have no use for it (I opened it initially for my son), but if I had to keep the name I would be annoyed!

Hi there,

was that for a " .uk" domain or something different ?

I've just read the 1and1 contract but can't see anything in it, maybe this is why they get such bad press !

I had to put up this guide as I have a 'hosting' customer who is making the switch...

Hi Ric,

Here is the latest bill from 1 and 1 (nominet)

Every week there is an email saying they are suspending it, and they never do! A few weeks ago I got an actual letter bill from them via snail mail threatening me with closure of the domain if I did not pay!

I have told them I do not require the name anymore, but they still persist!
