Any idea what might be causing a soft hi pitched sound from my tuner when the printer cable & mini-jack are plugged into AEx? I have it connected to a surge protector close to the printer, stereo and speakers. If I remove the USB printer cable it goes away. Something need to be shielded? I have a very basic but good 10 year old amp/tuner system: no toslink or the like. Thanks.

That's kinda common with regards to audio and USB. It's basically interference. A good Monster Cable USB cable has been known to solve it with USB audio interfaces. Make sure your power cords aren't crossing/touching any audio/computer cables...if so, make them at a 90º angle. Try moving it away from your amp as far as you can.
