Hello: need help, I am giving my mac book to a friend and wanted to wipe out all the deleted financial files so I used the utility app and used the 35 wipe of the clean space figuring this would be the best option.

It ran for approx 15 hours but never showed it was complete. the control window would not reopen and i had to force quit. then the computer posted a message that my start up disk was full and I needed to delete some files.

is this a product of doing the write over

what do I do now

applications like pages starts up really slow now

I had very little on my hard drive prior to the wipe.

A 35 pass wipe is a little over the top, it has to write and rewrite all of the free space 35 times, its possible you stopped it at a really bad moment

I would try and do a "zero out deleted files" to see if that fixes it but i expect your best bet now might be to boot using the install disk, then use disk utility to completely erase the drive then reinstall OS X.

do you have a good backup?
