Hi there and welcome !

what does it 'actually' say on the screen ?

Have you tried your account name and password ? Did you set this Mac up originally ?

Hi Ric,

its got a black screen saying:

Darwin/BSD (console)
login:
password:

then after my attempt :
login incorrect.

'' CFPropertyLoistCreateFromXMLData: plist parsefailed;the data is not proper UTF-8. Yhe file name for this data could be:/Libabry/Managed Preferences/root/com.apple.appliqicationaccess.plist
the parser will retry as in 10.2, but the problem should be cprrected in the plist. ''

i have no idea what that means??!!

i set the Mac up when i first got it.. and have tried all possible login names and passowrds...

any way it be fixed...is it possible i have lost stuff on my hardrive etc??

Hi there,

reboot the Max and hold down the x key, see if that boots you back into OS X.
