Screen Flashes on and off when opening folders

I'm running Mac OS X V 10.4.11

My mac has developed a problem with opening folders the Screen Flashes on and off when opening certain folders.

Does anyone have a fix for this please?

Does the screen flash at other times?

Which folders seemingly cause this screen flash when opened? :)
