Quicksilver 2002 dvd problem

Recently my old G4 500mhz (10.3.9, 640mb) expired. I updated with a Quicksilver 2002 with 10.3.9 and 256mb (yeah, i know...more is on the way from OWC). I took the old Sony super-drive from the old G4 and installed it. The problem is that it recognizes cd's cd-r's, cd-rw's and will burn them but it does not recognize any dvd's, blank or pre-recorded. I've checked everything I know (connections, DVD READER...) and I get nothing when I load a DVD. No icon or anything. I've tried opening a new finder window like HELP recommends and.....nothing.

Any suggestions?
