I had a problem with my brand new PowerBook, in that it would not recognize or play a Windows MediaPlayer 9 format .wmv

After several days of struggle, I was able to finally play .wmv files after purchasing "extra" software... Flip4mac, that apparently added a plug-in to QuickTime.

Does Apple or Quicktime provide (for free) the necessary plug-in?

It seems to me that they should have included it with my computer as it was delivered.

Hi there and welcome !

Sorry, but they don't supply anything that allows you to directly play wmv files.

You can download the Windows Media Player from the Microsoft website which is free then you can play wmv files...

Flip4mac is meant be very good, haven't tried it myself though.

Hi All

Flip for Mac is a good programme also there is a utility called ffmpeg ( found on Version Tracker) that will convert .wmv files to .mov or a host of other formats
