problems with partitions on a used mac

I bought a used Mac G4 and I love it but it is partitioned. It was running OS9 as well as OS10. I have my own copy of OS10 and didn't have any use for the OS9. I followed a few mac help site postings for deleting content and then removing the partitions. Unfortunately, my mac won't let me get rid of the partition.

I am a new mac user and thus I am lost as to what to do. I don't have alot of RAM - just enough. I hope to upgrade eventually but all would be good for now if I could merge the two partitions. I am copying and pasting some information below in hopes that someone can help me. On the "Sonia" volume all I have installed is MacOS10 Tiger and I-Life.

Hi there and welcome,

how have you got on ?

Are you able to reinstall the OS ? If you are then we can guide you how to get the partitions how you would like them...

there are ways to do this with special software but it's easier/cheaper with the OS install disk.

regards

Ric
