If you are insure of how to upgrade your memory then this is how it's done.

Get all the elements together before starting , memory chip, screwdiver's, anti static wrist band !

Put your wristband on and ground it !

First remove, the battery.

Then undo the three screws.

Remove the cover, lifting up slightly and then pulling gently towards you.

Then remove the Memory chip from it's case.

If you haven't got an anti-static wristband, then just touch the metal inside the case, this will ground you and get rid of any static electricity. (don't touch anything else !)

Then, checking that the chip is the right way round, it can only go in one way, slowly insert it into the slot.

Make sure the chip is fully inserted, before pushing the chip down and let it snap into the metal clips.

Then replace the cover, tighten the screws, and pop the battery back in.

Now restart your PB and hopefully you will here the normal startup tone !

If everything has been successfull your Mac will boot up as normal, then go to the "About this Mac" and check that your memory has been recognised.

Off you go...

I should have also mentioned, on your original PowerBook install cd's or DVD there should be a copy of 'Apple Hardware Test', on my supplied DVD it is version 2.5. Find the disk, insert into PB and restart holding down the option key, then select the 'AHT' as the startup disk.

This normally takes a while to boot, once it's booted you can run a standard or extended "Test", run the extended, get a coffe and relax for 30 minutes.

This at the end of it's cycle will tell you if the inner 'workings' of you PB are all working like normal, even down to a single dead pixel...don't worry if there's a loud noise that's just the fan being tested !

Once this is done, reboot and off you go...if it isn't okay let us know and we'll try and help !
