Please help! Why is my internet connection constantly flickering on and off?

When I start up my Mac Book the internet normally works for a couple of hours but then the connection starts to break up and keeps going on and off. I know it's not down to the internet connection/provider as the internet on my PC is working fine.

I have a Mac OS X macbook 10.4.11.

Any ideas anyone?

It's probably something simple like needing to update to OS X Snow Leopard or something...right??? Or something even simpler perhaps! lol
