"No network selected"

I am having a problem with my wireless connection. I am running Mac OS X Version 10.6.2 on a MacBook Pro. My wireless works intermittently and seems to "stall" other times. When I click on the Airport button on the top of the screen there is not a check next to my wireless network name, rather it says "No network selected."

Does anyone know how I could get my laptop to recognize my network or have any other suggestions for me? I am using a Belkin wireless router.
