more issues than national geographic

I'm a new MAC user and grew up using IBMs. I have seen the light as some say, however, I am trying to make a (new to me) G4 talk to a monitor I had previously. The only thing that comes up on the monitor is "OUT OF RANGE". Is there a "Safemode" or something similar I can get into to change the resolution... would it be a resolution issue? or may my video card just not be able to talk with the SVGA that I have.

I gather it must be an old monitor? It probably needs the res setting to the lowest for your monitor then you can always up it.

You really need to attach the Mac to another monitor and set the res at the lowest resolution then re-attach to your original monitor and it should work.

However, sometimes it does not so please be prepared.
