MAC's in schools (students)

I have a small job with a school to help setup a few iMac’s and integrate their MAC into the School Network. Network Integration is fine, but the next task is stopping the students trashing the OS. I have created a limited user so they cannot move or delete files, but the school would prefer to have all the files/folders hidden. (Personally I can’t see why, but since they have asked I’d like to fulfil the request)

I am struggling with is to hide and prevent view access to the whole local hard disk. I guess the right command issues from the “shell” will achieve this.

I am also looking into clearing the desktop after each boot, but this requires a warning just in case power failure etc..

Work to be kept/saved will be transferred to a NAS device where all students have their own account/folder and therefore a safe storage area.

Does anybody have experience with this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Freddie and welcome !

I'll post up a few ideas tonight...I've had to do similar a few times ;-)

In all honesty though, it doesn't really matter what you do...the students will generally find a way round it !

regards

Ric
