Mac charger rarely works?

Hi all,
My charger rarely works for my mac anymore. The green light does not come on, and my computer does not recognize it. On the rare occasion it does work and the mac starts to charge, if the charger is disconnected the mac automatically shuts off. Anybody know what is going on?

This is a common fault with the older type chargers.
The cable breaks down at the computer end of the cable.
Only way round this is to either:
buy a new cable
fix the old one if you have the skills

I managed to fix my wifes old charger after we bought a new one but it fell apart soon after

the new charger cables are now much better but unfortunately not cheap either.

It also sounds like your Battery has pasted its cycle count, too.

If you don't fix these issues you can permanently damage your Mac!
