I recently purchased a Mac Studio (M2 Max) to replace my old Mac Plus biscuit barrel which was having over-heating problems. The Studio was primed with Monterey, that was running on the Mac Plus. The migration took 33 hours ! -- and oddly, the result was a Studio running Sonoma?? I installed my short wire-less keboard and my Logitech MX mouse. Both seemed to work OK. While checking my data a number of problems had arisen :

(1) Attempting to use Houdah Spot I saw a message that I needed to run something called Rosetta to use H-S with Sonoma - so I did as requested. When I tried to run H-S once more - a curt message to say H-S was damaged and should be put in the bin. I really LOVE Houdah Spot which has saved my bacon many times. (I retain an older version of HS as it warns that Apple no longer support accessing the email indexes.

(2) I tried to update a docx file and found the keyboard did not respond. Sometimes it simply did not transfer anything - other times it did the same but every key touched caused the alarm sound. I have 2 short wireless keyboards and both behave in the same manner.

Seeing that I was being pressed to upgrade Sonoma I set it going and went to bed, hoping that a bug might be fixed in the 14.2 relase. This morning I find that I am now running Sequoia 15.4.1

(2A) When typing this report, the keyboard works perfectly. When requested to type in my admin password, again, no problem. I can amend a Numbers file also. Any docx file cannot be changed in any way however. I can position an input cursor mark with the mouse, but nothing typed thereafter is accepted.

Any help will be welcome. Thanks

Still me. I have just confirmed that I can compose an email with this same keyboard. Thanks.

Not sure what you meant by it being “primed with Monterey” when your M2 Max Studio (2023) originally came with macOS 13.4 Ventura. Did you use Migration Assistant to do the migration, and did you update macOS? Your model should be able to run macOS Sequoia, so I’m puzzled that it ended up with Sonoma. You should download the latest version of Houdah Spot because the copy from the migration was probably incompatible with the newer system. Find out how much support is available for the present version of macOS.

Your problem with .docx files could be a problem with MS Word, if that’s what you are using. Try opening it with Pages. The newest version of Microsoft Word is 16.98. If problems persist, I recommend reinstalling macOS Sequoia via Recovery.

When my 2022 Mac Studio M1 Max bit the dust, I had to scramble to get a replacement and I opted for the fully loaded Apple Studio M4 Max. The migration from the latest version of Sequoia did not go perfectly well either. Strange behavior turned up, like Numbers not recognizing the Find command from the keyboard (command-F). Really? The only solution was to reinstall Numbers altogether. It’s not a perfect world. I hope to get the old Studio repaired (still covered by AppleCare) so I can set it up to run some older apps that I still rely on.
