iCloud as backup

I started using iCloud for storing my photos, thinking it wold be a good backup. But then I realized that if, for example, my iPhone was stolen, and I needed to completely wipe it from another device, all my photos on the iPhone would be wiped. That also means that they're deleted from all my other devices, including my iPad and Mac because the iPhone deletes them from iCloud, right? The whole idea of ICloud is that it syncs all devices, so if a photo is deleted from one device, it's also deleted from all others and iCloud. Am I missing something? Isn't it dangerous to rely on iCloud as a backup?

Hello,

iCloud is a good way to keep a backup of things. It is recommended to have more than one backup of your important data however, using things like Time Machine as well.

If your iPhone was lost/stolen and you send a remote wipe command, it won't delete your photos in iCloud. When using iCloud Photo Library, it will only delete photos/videos that are actually deleted using the Photos app on a Mac or iOS device, not if the device is erased.

Hope that makes sense,

C
