How to Find Hidden Files?!?

Hey tech gods, I was advised to hide files by merely putting a dot before the filename.
That hides it, but how do I retrieve it? Must I download special software? I have Tiger and Leopard.

I made this app a month ago or so for a friend that you might find useful. It runs on Tiger & Leopard and it will show you all the files and folders, invisible and visible, in the chosen directory and allow you to toggle the visibility bits on them. In essence, it will make invisible files and folders visible and vice versa, individually . Please, be careful with the invisible system files.
