Hello please help with mac transfer files through firewire?

Basically I have an old macbook with a broken screen and a new mac book and want to get files from old to new. I looked up how to do this but it's all a bit confusing and none of it is for if your screen is broken. Any advice would be brilliant. Thanks!

Target mode works great even if the screen is damaged.

Plug them together.
Boot the damaged one holding down the T key
Boot the good one and the Target drive will be available as a standard disk.

Migrate or Drag and drop your files as required.
