G4 iBook will not start, even from install cd

Hello,

I've seen some similar problems posted, but nothing quite like this...

I purchased a used G4 iBook about 6 months ago, and it has worked great running latest Tiger (10.4.9? can't remember exactly) until a couple of days ago it would not wake up out of sleep. I shut it off and left it for a day, and I when I came back to it it started up again, but again it would not wake out of sleep. Now when I reboot I get nothing, just some sounds like the thing is going to boot, but the blank screen remains. Sometimes a loud fan accompanies this, and when this happens I can't shut down using the power button but have to remove the power source. The same thing happens when trying to boot from the install cd - nothing but fans and blank screen.

Any ideas?
