Hi, im new here!!
Im upgrading the memory in an old original clamshell running OS9. It came with a 128mb SDRAM SODIMM PC133S 144pin installed ontop of the built in 64mb. I replaced it with a 256mb SDRAM SODIMM PC133 144pin but it is not being recognised when the ibook is booted up. Is there something im missing? can anyone help?
cheers

Have you tried taking it out and reseating it? Is it the correct spec? (I know, I had to ask).

Hi there and welcome !

according to Crucial, the max is "The Apple iBook (G3 300MHz) has a maximum capacity of 288MB."

yup, tried reseating it but nothing. it should be the right spec, perhaps I just got one that isnt 100% compatible, or a dud!! the max ram in this ibook (64mb built in) is 320. it is 288 in the original 32mb clamshells.
thanks for the tips!

serialslacker is correct...Apple states max RAM is 288/320MB, actual is 544/576MB depending on whether the iBook came with 32 or 64MB on the logic board.

I noticed you stated PC133...the actual spec is for PC66 3.3V 144-pin SO-DIMM. Maybe that's part of the issue?
