Hi,

have found my old iPad 2, early model, and dont remember the passwords and has an old email address, etc...

the 27" iMac that it used to be connected to, fused a few days after the 2022 floods. it had all my data & passwords etc.

i have tried to erase it, but it is stuck in the Activation Lock , as below, and that is the only screen i can get to. The monochrome Hello flashed up when it turn on. and I cant get past that. tried the passwords from what files i managed to rescue from the old 27" iMac disk. but none work.

have tried resetting my password for my iMac.. but i only use a few passwords, and dont want to get into the mess i had when the 27" fused.

is there any way to hard reset and wipe this old thing... (i got onto a apple support through the Australian Apples web support site. but still could not get pas this message. even holding dowm the Power and increase Volume does not work.... the Store is a hour's drive away. Dam. (Tempted to take i in there an smash it.)

Regards, Sandy

To bypass the Activation Lock on your iPad 2, try resetting your Apple ID password through iforgot.apple.com if you haven’t already. If that doesn’t work, follow up with Apple Support and provide proof of ownership, as they might be able to unlock it for you. You can also try DFU mode to wipe the device, but it won’t bypass the Activation Lock. If nothing works, your last option is to visit the Apple Store with proof of ownership, as they may assist in unlocking it.

This is why we suggest Password Managers. Any password manager that syncs to iCloud or similar means you only need to login as you from any device to access all of your passwords. Even a physical backup like Time Machine will have a copy of your passwords on it even if it's a just a Word doc. Do you have any backups at all that might have your original iPad password? The old email address will still work (even if you don't use it any more) as an Apple Account ID it's just the password you need.

Does this mean you have changed your Apple Account ID or created a new one since that iPad was in use?

Hi, i was flooded in 2011, and computer I had then was lost with all my password, i bought the ipad after that, but was flooded again in 2022 and that computer had all the ipad password on it.. dam..
i used to write them down on cards in a business card file, but the flood helpers here threw out just about everything. (village idiots would have been better) i had to rescue hammers , screwdrivers, etc. from the mud pile on the street. nothing wrong with tools just brush the mud & rust of on a wire wheel, etc...

well not a realy a loss, as i never use it any more, more of a collectors item now.
regards, Sandy
