I'm trying to format a WD 5000 BMV external hard drive my friend gave me.
Firstly the connection is not recognised on my desktop. I go to utilities, it's recognised as being connected. I did a bit of research and followed some recommendations. But when I either try to erase the disc or partition into one partition as recommended I get a final message, partition failed, erase failed with the error: input/output error. Any advice, further directions appreciated.
