instead of futzing about with the external dvd drive i decided to take the plunge and buy an internal one
16 speed benq and it was only 45
so i decided to chance it
un hooked my mac yanked the sony 8 speed cd writer out nudged this one in hooke dit up booted got nothing swore alot
realised it was in slave mode
swore a bit more
pulle dit out lost the jumper on the floor
couldt find it
used a other jumper
slid it back in
hooked it up again
booted and it works
its also bootable and tiger installed with it just fine
was worth the 45 and the effort
